Our Curriculum

Picture of Students McAuley School is dedicated to providing an educational experience that encompasses achievable academic goals as well as preparing the student for independent living.

While adhering to the New Jersey Core Curriculum Standards, McAuley strives to incorporate these standards into an individualized learning plan that is meaningful to student progress. Realizing that not all special needs children are alike, we specialize in instruction that is student based and student assessed.

Students receive instruction in language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, visual and performing arts, and physical education and health. As part of our physical education classes, students swim weekly at the YMCA. Some of our independent living skills are taught as part of this program including shower and dressing skills.

Therapy is an important component in our program. Speech, occupational, and physical therapy are all offered by skilled therapists. The amount of therapy each student receives is decided as part of the IEP process.

Special Programming

McAuley School offers a variety of special programs and sponsors academic, physical and social events for our students.

McAuley School offers a monthly club program for our students. This programs works on socialization and etiquette as well as being a time of peer socialization for the students. Several times a year, McAuley sponsors dinners, dances, prom and weekend respites. We also sponsor a week long sleep away camp each summer. We participate in the Special Olympics on both a county and state level.

Family is very important to the development of all children. Our school offers many opportunities for families to attend seminars, workshops and family social activities.
